And Just Like That... Season 2's Finale Promo Teases Sex and the City's Samantha Jones Cameo

Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones will make her first appearance on And Just Like That... in the season two finale.

And Just Like That… another Sex and the City character returns. Season two of Max’s streaming series And Just Like That… still hasn’t quite found the sort of critical success the show’s developer Michael Patrick King must have hoped for. But season two’s Tomatometer rating of 65% is a vast improvement over season one’s paltry 48%. Undoubtedly, part of the storyline’s success this go-round involves the return of Aidan Shaw (John Corbett). And another important part of Carrie Bradshaw’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) past is confirmed to show up in the season two finale: Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall). Check out the promo teasing Samantha's return in the season two finale of And Just Like That… below:

Originally, the cast of And Just Like That… was hoping the return of Samantha Jones would be a surprise. But with the social media and internet culture of the times, it was impossible to keep Samantha’s reunion with Carrie under wraps. “We were really hoping that it wouldn’t get leaked,” Cynthia Nixon, who portrays Miranda Hobbes, told ET Canada. “And that we would be able to just have people watching the episode, have no idea that it was coming — and then have her pop up.”

In the teaser for the season two finale of And Just Like That…, Carrie Bradshaw (Parker) receives a phone call, and the screen lights up with the name “Samantha.” Whether Carrie just takes the call, or whether the two friends end up on a video chat, audiences will see Samantha this time around. While the character has been mentioned, particularly through phone calls and texts, Samantha hasn’t been in And Just Like That… The character’s last appearance came in the feature film Sex and the City 2 back in 2010. And Cattrall succinctly broke down Samantha’s long-awaited return to the franchise (via LIVE With Kelly and Mark):

“This is for the fans.”

One of the conditions Cattrall insisted on, if she reprised the role of her Sex and the City character, was working with costume designer Patricia Field. Cattrall said in the same interview:

“She’s fantastic. She did my clothes on ‘Glamorous.’ She has been doing most of my clothes and styling since I stopped doing ‘Sex and the City' — since the series ended. And we’ve just become such good pals. I just adore her.”

Unfortunately, despite Cattrall’s return, fans shouldn’t expect to see Samantha Jones again on And Just Like That… While the character was an integral part of Sex and the City, it doesn’t seem from the outside looking in that the highly publicized falling out between Cattrall and her co-stars has been completely mended. Who knows, perhaps Miranda (Nixon) and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) will jump on the phone call from Samantha, too. But it’s just a conversation. It doesn’t appear that any of the actresses will actually be on set together when the reunion occurs.

The season two finale of And Just Like That… drops Thursday, August 24 on Max.
